  • Man City thrashed Chelsea
  • Move within six points of Arsenal
  • Yaya Toure impressed by his ex-club

Yaya Toure has given his verdict on Manchester City’s Premier League title chances after a stunning 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Manchester City took their time to get going in the Carabao Cup final, but were able to overcome Arsenal by a two-goal margin.

It was a similar story against Liverpool in the FA Cup. The Reds started well, but City eventually took the lead through a 39th minute Erling Haaland penalty.

Then at Chelsea, the Citizens were unable to break the deadlock until the second half. However, Nico O’Reilly found the net with a header and it was all joy from then onwards.

City have been exceptional in each of these fixtures and this has caught the attention of one of a former fan favourite, who was watching on at Stamford Bridge.

Yaya Toure backs Man City to win Premier League title

Ex-Man City midfielder Yaya Toure was in the stands to take in the action on Sunday and he was impressed by their mentality, as much as anything.

The Ivorian has praised City’s availability to deliver when it mattered and insists that they have the look of a Premier League-winning team.

He said: “The game wasn’t about formation or team selection for City. It was about how the City players handled the pressure of needing to win to put real pressure on Arsenal in the title race.

“They stepped up. That second half was impressive! They showed character and belief. They are beginning to look like champions!”

Man City are destroying their competition

It is hard to argue with Toure when considering the teams Man City have beaten in recent weeks across domestic competitions.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League, while Liverpool and Chelsea sit in fifth and sixth respectively.

The Citizens have not even struggled. In fact, they have made it look easy. Their attacking moves have looked effortless and none of these three teams have managed to score a single goal past them.

Toure knows what a winning team looks like

If there is anyone who knows how to identify a team who are on their way to winning a title, surely it is Yaya Toure.

After all, he was part of that famous City team who won the club their first Premier League title. The Saudi national team coach then went on to win the league on two additional occasions.

Before this, Toure had already twice won La Liga and lifted the Champions League trophy with Barcelona. Therefore, the 42-year-old clearly knows what he is talking about.
