  • Slightly weighted in City’s favour

Joleon Lescott has created his combined XI of this season’s Premier League title rivals and he has found room for six Manchester City players.

The Premier League title race has taken a number of twists of turns, and the most recent one has put Manchester City in a promising position.

Arsenal fell to a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, meaning the Citizens could move three points closer to them with a win over Chelsea.

This means that when the two teams face off next weekend, Man City could be within six points of the Gunners, with a game in hand as well.

Man City still have a chance to win the Premier League title and when it comes to first-team starters and Joleon Lescott believes Pep Guardiola’s team are marginally better than Arsenal.

Making a combined XI on TNT Sports, the ex-City defender chose Gianluigi Donnarumma over David Raya, while Carabao Cup final hero Nico O’Reilly made his defensive line.

Rodri was included in midfield, but Lescott made the decision to pick Declan Rice over the long-serving Bernardo Silva.

There was no room for Antoine Semenyo either, but Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland all made his team.

Abdukodir Khusanov was not even mentioned

Lescott was only allowed to choose players brought up by the interviewer, meaning he was not allowed to make the case for Abdukodir Khusanov making the team.

Man City’s defence has looked much stronger recently, and the young Uzbek warrior has been a key contributor to this improvement.

Khusanov was particularly impressive in City’s Champions League second leg tie against Real Madrid and he currently has two successive clean sheets to his name.

Man City have what it takes to defeat Arsenal

Man City still need to beat Chelsea, but after that their attention will turn to a must-win fixture against Arsenal.

The Sky Blues almost beat their title rivals in the league earlier this season and they made sure to get the job done in the Carabao Cup final.

With City in form and Arsenal anything but, it certainly feels like the game is there for the taking. Additionally, the hosts will have time to rest up before the match, while their opponent have a Champions League second leg tie against Sporting CP in midweek to think about.

There is no room for complacency, but Man City definitely look to be in a good position to go and win that fixture, which would have a massive impact on the Premier League title race.
