  • Manchester City face Chelsea in key Premier League clash
  • Recent meetings between the sides offer an interesting trend
  • Both teams will look to build on their recent record

Manchester City take on Chelsea this weekend, with recent meetings between the two sides providing the visitors with the upper hand.

Man City sit second in the Premier League with a game in hand on Arsenal. Currently, the two teams are still separated by a considerable margin.

Chelsea, on the other hand are fighting for a top five spot this season. After being dissatisfied with Enzo Maresca, the Blues appointed a new manager in January, but they continue to struggle to date.

Taking a look at the last five clashes and Chelsea’s inconsistency, Pep Guardiola has a real chance at closing the gap on Arsenal this Sunday.

Chelsea vs Man City past five meetings

  • 2026: Manchester City 1–1 Chelsea
  • 2025: Manchester City 3–1 Chelsea
  • 2024: Chelsea 0–2 Manchester City
  • 2024: Manchester City 1–0 Chelsea (FA Cup)
  • 2024: Manchester City 1-1 Chelsea

Pep Guardiola’s side remained unbeaten against the Blues even on the away day in 2024. Man City might not have the best away record this season, as the Sky Blues have only managed to win seven of their 15 fixtures outside the Etihad.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have a worse home record, thanks to their tumultuous management this season.

Six wins in 15 home games with a total of 23 points won at Stamford Bridge. This only totals up to an average of 1.54 points per home game, lower than their combined average of 1.55 points per game.

A closely contested fixture

Three wins in the last five games still do not put Man City in a comfortable position. Only two of these five games have been won by a two-goal margin.

Three of the last five fixtures have been closely contested. Only one of them led to a win for the Citizens, which was an FA Cup fixture.

The other two ended in a draw. The last game took place in January this year after Enzo Maresca was sacked by the BlueCo management.

Enzo Fernandez saved the day for the Blues that day with an injury-time equaliser. After Malo Gusto got past Nico O’Reilly, the Frenchman crossed one in, leading to the midfielder finding the back of the net.

Man City have the edge on Sunday

The Blues will not be playing their saviour Enzo Fernandez tomorrow. However, Man City will still have to be cautious despite Chelsea’s recent record.

The Londoners have only won one of their last five league games, drawing another and losing three. City do not have the best of records with three wins, but they still lacked in their last two fixtures, which ended in a draw.

However, the Sky Blues did return from a Carabao Cup win against Arsenal, followed by a 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Chelsea, on the other hand, won 7-0 against League One side Port Vale but couldn’t convert against Everton in the Premier League.

Both teams had a bad Champions League night, but the Blues faced worse with a 3-0 loss to PSG. The stats support a win for Man City, but it will be up to the players to transfer cup performance into the league.
