Manchester City find themselves in a very desirable position after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Arsenal’s poor run of form began in the Carabao Cup final, as Manchester City beat them to lift the first trophy on offer this season.

Southampton continued this run, getting the better of Mikel Arteta’s team in the FA Cup, and now Bournemouth have followed in their footsteps.

Viktor Gyokeres was able to level the scoreline from the penalty spot after Junior Kroupi’s opener in the 17th minute.

However, Alex Scott put the visitors back in front with 16 minutes left to play, handing them an unexpected victory.

Manchester City could close the gap on Arsenal

With Arsenal slipping up on Saturday afternoon, Man City now have the chance to move within six points of the North London club.

Should City defeat the Gunners next weekend, they would be only three points behind them with a game in hand.

Plus, with Arsenal in such bad form, it is not out of the question to suggest that they will drop even more points between now and the end of the campaign.

Man City’s form has improved

Arsenal might be on a downward trajectory, but Manchester City have overcome their own recent rough patch.

The Citizens were unable to beat both Nottingham Forest and West Ham in the Premier League, but have recently seen off Arsenal and Liverpool in the domestic cup competitions.

City’s most recent display was a fine combination of fast-paced attacking moves and solid defending, and it will encourage them ahead of the Chelsea clash.

The Premier League could become Man City’s to lose

It is worth remembering that Arsenal still have the Champions League to think about. As big as the Premier League title would be, winning Europe’s most prestigious prize for the very first time might be viewed as an even bigger achievement.

Whereas Man City’s only distraction from the Premier League is a potential two matches in the FA Cup, the first of which will be against a Championship opponent.

Add the current circumstances of the Premier League to that, and City could realistically become the favourites within the next couple of weeks.
