- Man City visit Stamford Bridge this Sunday
- Citizens have won two successive matches
- Liam Rosenior believes Chelsea could win
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has spoken confidently about his team ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League trip to London.
Manchester City are looking to succeed where they failed in January by beating Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Blues snatched a stoppage time equaliser at the Etihad Stadium through Enzo Fernandez, cancelling out Tijjani Reijnder’s earlier strike.
City will be favourites this time around considering the form of both teams, but this has not prevented Liam Rosenior from feeling confident in his squad.
Liam Rosenior reckons Chelsea can beat Man City
Although Man City have recently recorded two impressive cup victories, Rosenior is backing his team to come out on top.
The manager has described Chelsea’s performance against Port Vale last weekend as ‘very good’ and he is not ruling out another success.
“Of course we can,” Rosenior said in his pre-match press conference, when asked if Chelsea had the ability to defeat City.
“We’re a very good team, we’ve gone through a difficult run. When I analyse the games we have had, we’ve caused every team problems but not had the results for that.”
Softening the blow, Rosenior said of Guardiola: “Huge respect. I don’t have a big enough ego not to respect people. He’s influenced everyone in football. But now I want my team to show what we’re capable of on Sunday.
“He’s won trophies, he’s reinvigorated the team, he’s refreshed the team and also had time to put his style together. He’s an unbelievable manager and one you look to.”
Man City have a strong record against Chelsea
Despite Rosenior’s ambitions, Chelsea have failed to get the better of Man City in the last 12 meetings between the sides.
Prior to the 1-1 draw earlier this season, the Sky Blues had won three matches in a row against their next opponent.
However, Rosenior has been clear that nothing which happened in the past matters, considering he only became the club’s head coach in January.
Man City and Chelsea both need a victory
It will be an intriguing contest this weekend, as both Man City and Chelsea have a reason to play for all three points.
The Citizens’ motive is obvious. They want to win the Premier League title and every point on offer must be taken to begin the catch-up with Arsenal.
Chelsea on the other hand are chasing a top five spot, which would secure them Champions League football next season.
The Londoners are just one point behind Liverpool in the table, so it is unlikely they will just sit back and play for a goalless draw.
If Man City are to conquer Chelsea and keep the title race alive, consistency is key. They have recorded two good performances in a row, and now is the time to make it three.
