Adrian Durham has taken aim at Arsenal, while selecting a Manchester City star as his Premier League Player of the Year.

Arsenal are leading the way in the Premier League this season, with nine points separating themselves from Manchester City.

It is hard to say the Gunners are undeserving of the top spot, but Adrian Durham has taken it on himself to call out the way Mikel Arteta’s team operate.

When it comes to individual skills and talent, Durham has been left unconvinced by Arsenal and he does not believe any of their players are worthy of the player of the year award.

Rayan Cherki deserves to be Premier League player of the year

Durham has been discussing who should be named the PFA Player of the Year and he is adamant the end-of-season award should not be handed to an Arsenal player.

Instead, he views Cherki as the most deserving candidate and has described the France international as the ‘only contender’.

The pundit told talkSPORT: “I’m thinking of the footballer of the year. You can’t have any Arsenal players, they’re not footballers, okay? They’re just robots. So, you can’t have any Arsenal players as player of the year.”

“He [Cherki] is the only contender for footballer of the year. Rayan Cherki has won it already.

“None of us are entertained by Arsenal and you can’t really knock what they’re doing. They’re the top of the league. They’re probably going to win the league, he continued.

“If Man City win the Premier League, this is a no-brainer. But if Arsenal do win the Premier League, they are just robotic. And we’re talking about footballer of the year, not robot of the year.”

He added: “Rayan Cherki is literally the only one who’s playing proper football in the Premier League.”

Cherki is the complete opposite of Arsenal’s players

So many football fans complain about the modern game being dull to watch, but that is certainly not the case with Cherki.

For starters, the 22-year-old is quite the character, as shown by the way he messed with the Gunners during the Carabao Cup final.

More importantly, he has superb technical abilities. Cherki does not attempt to tone down his flair, but uses it to pose a threat to opposing defenders.

Arsenal are having a good season, but there is little to be said about individual talent. With Cherki, the story is very different.

Cherki is a creative genius

This season, Cherki has registered eight assists in 25 Premier League appearances. Of these, 14 were starts.

Better still, the right winger has created 15 big chances and 42 opportunities, proving how good he is at starting something from nothing.

Cherki is only going to get better as time goes on, so the fact he is already receiving player of the year calls shows what an extraordinary talent he could become.

Man City are clearly looking to build a squad for the future, and there is a good chance the attack will be based around this sensational player.
