- Chelsea v Man City
- Sunday, April 12
- 16:30 kick off BST
Manchester City are looking to collect a crucial three points in the Premier League against a Chelsea team who are struggling to get results.
The Premier League title race is starting to look interesting again, considering Arsenal have lost two successive matches.
Neither of these defeats came in the league, but they could be a sign that the pressure is getting to Mikel Arteta’s team.
This could allow Manchester City an opportunity to catch up, but a victory over Chelsea is required first.
The Blues have been in poor form recently, losing 3-0 to Everton in their most recent Premier League outing.
However, they did hand Port Vale a 7-0 thumping in the FA Cup last weekend and will be looking to build on this triumph..
Interview with a Chelsea expert
Ahead of this Sunday’s fixture, we took the time to speak with Read Chelsea writer Sourav Mahanty, to ask him a couple of questions about the London club.
Read Man City: Which of Chelsea’s players should Man City be the most wary of?
Sourav: “The obvious answer would be Estevao. He is Chelsea’s most direct player right now and the one who seems capable of getting something out of nothing.
“In a game where chances are expected to be rare for Chelsea, that could be the difference. Of course, you can never completely rule out Cole Palmer either. He has not been the same this season, largely due to his injury problems. But he will be up for it against his former team.
“Joao Pedro has been one of the standouts under Liam Rosenior and could be another to keep an eye on.”
Read Man City: What do you think the likelihood is of Chelsea getting a result against the Citizens, considering their poor form of late?
Sourav: “Considering how little joy Chelsea have had against fellow big teams in the Premier League in recent times, it is hard to be too optimistic. Then again, Chelsea are often at their best when counted out. This could turn out to be one of those days, you never know.”
Read Man City: “Was the Port Vale victory a sign of improvement, or simply a case of thrashing a poor opposition?”
“They are likely dropping down to League Two after this season and a one-sided win is what you would expect from that game. Perhaps it will give some players a bit of a confidence boost, but that is about it.”
Score prediction for Chelsea vs Man City
Rayan Cherki kickstarted some brilliant attacking moves against Liverpool, while both Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo were clinical up front.
If each of these players delivers their best performance, a Man City victory at the weekend should not be in doubt.
Chelsea have really been struggling of late in the Premier League and of course, the same could be said of City.
However, Pep Guardiola’s team have turned the tide on their fortunes with two important cup victories. They should really be winning this one.
