- Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been linked to Real Madrid
- The club have offered him a new long-term contract
- City remain confident they can convince the player to stay
Manchester City remain confident they can convince star midfielder Rodri to sign a new deal, despite the Ballon d’Or winner being linked with a move to Real Madrid.
In recent weeks, Man City have been negotiating with Rodri over a contract extension that would keep him at the Etihad Stadium for the foreseeable future.
Earlier this week, it was reported that La Liga giants Real Madrid were confident in signing the Spanish midfielder.
However, a new report suggests that City still have every hope of securing Rodri’s future at the club beyond this summer.
Manchester City offer Rodri lucrative long-term contract
Speaking via YouTube, Romano has explained that despite interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City are still positive about the situation.
The Italian journalist confirmed City’s contract offer is on the table and that the decision rests entirely with Rodri and his representatives.
“Manchester City are already offering Rodri a new long-term contract,” Romano said.
“So now it’s for Rodri, his family, his camp to decide what’s next. Man City’s contract proposal is on the table.”

Importantly, Romano added that City would only accept a substantial offer for Rodri, despite the risk of losing him for free next summer if a new deal is not signed.
“Man City would not accept a small fee, like £10m, £15m or £20m this summer, even if Rodri decides not to sign a new contract,” he continued.
“They prefer keeping him one more season rather than letting him go [for a small fee].
“[Rodri can sign] a new contract, or he can leave for free next summer. If he wants to leave this summer, it has to be for important money. Man City feel they can convince Rodri.”
Real Madrid will not break the bank to sign Rodri
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are said to be reluctant to spend big on Rodri, despite their interest. Romano confirmed that while Los Blancos are serious admirers of the 29-year-old, they will not make a deal if the finances are not right.
He added: “Rodri has some fans in Real Madrid’s management, for sure. He is one of the names being discussed.
“But Real Madrid already decided internally that they don’t want to go crazy in terms of money for Rodri this summer.
“If there’s an opportunity for Rodri this summer for a normal fee or next summer on a free [then Madrid will act]. Otherwise, Rodri’s not going to be a crazy investment.”
