- Man City have already won the Carabao Cup
- The Sky Blues are in the FA Cup semi-finals
- They are still in the Premier League title race
Some predicted that Manchester City would end this season without a trophy, but Pep Guardiola’s team could still wrap up three pieces of silverware.
Here are five reasons why the Carabao Cup winners could go on to lift a further two trophies before their campaign comes to an end.
Man City are no longer in the Champions League
Real Madrid put Man City to the sword in Europe, dumping Guardiola and his players out of the Champions League sooner than expected.
While this was disappointing, it means there will be multiple occasions when City will not have any midweek fixtures to fulfil.
This week, the Citizens will have had eight days without a match before taking on Chelsea in the Premier League. Whereas Arsenal are still in the Champions League and will not have long to prepare for Bournemouth’s visit to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Erling Haaland is back to his best
No Man City player has come close to scoring as many goals as Erling Haaland this season, so it is vital that he is in form.
Recently, the Norwegian has struggled to make an impact, often having very few touches of the ball during a match.
However, Haaland was far better against Liverpool. In fact, he pretty much stole the show with a hat-trick. Should the 25-year-old continue in this way, Man City are far more likely to experience future successes.
Man City’s FA Cup draw is wide open
Fair play to Southampton for defeating Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals. This result shows that they are not a team to be underestimated.
However, Man City’s squad will have been licking their lips when discovering they would play against the Saints in their semi-final tie.
Should City win this, Chelsea or Leeds United will be the team facing them in the final, which again, is not the worst draw in the world by any means.
Arsenal are falling apart
In order to win the Premier League, Man City need Arsenal to drop points. Otherwise, the Gunners are going to win the title.
Right now, the Sky Blues could reduce the nine-point gap in the league table by winning their game in hand and by defeating Arsenal later this month. However, Mikel Arteta’s team would still be on top.
It is therefore excellent to see Arsenal hit some poor form, with the North London club suffering two consecutive defeats against City and Southampton respectively. Should this continue, Man City have a real chance to win the Premier League.
Man City look stronger in defence
There have been times this season when Man City’s defending has cost them results. The 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest is a fine example.
However, City have kept two successive clean sheets, both of which came against very good teams who usually carry an attacking threat.
Abdukodir Khusanov has been absolutely sensational since the turn of the calendar year and James Trafford is making a strong case as to why he should start more often. If they can keep this up, Man City could find themselves in a very good position.
