  • Man City defeated Liverpool 4-0
  • This result put them in the FA Cup semi-finals
  • Their potential draw suddenly looks more favourable

Manchester City are in the FA Cup semi-finals and their chances of winning the competition have only increased after the events of Saturday night.

Liverpool were at least expected to put up a fight at the Etihad Stadium, but Manchester City inflicted a harsh lesson on Arne Slot’s men.

Now, the Citizens are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, with only two wins required in order to lift the famous trophy.

With the Carabao Cup already in his grasp, Pep Guardiola has his eyes on a second piece of silverware. It would certainly be a good way to wrap up what could be the manager’s final season at the club.

Man City have a clearer route to the FA Cup final

Things just keep getting better for Man City. Not only did they absolutely thrash Liverpool, but Arsenal have been knocked out of the FA Cup.

The Gunners recovered a one-goal deficit against Southampton, but fell behind again in the closing stages of the match.

This means City could potentially face Championship outfit Southampton in their semi-final tie. Obviously the Saints have done really well to defeat Arsenal, but this would be a favourable draw for Guardiola and his team.

Alternatively, Man City could be up against Chelsea, who tore Port Vale to shreds at Stamford Bridge. If not, they will take on the winner of West Ham’s meeting with Leeds.

Arsenal’s result could impact Man City’s Premier League hopes

Building momentum is so important in football and failing to do so can have grave consequences. Therefore, Arsenal could be in trouble.

Right now, Mikel Arteta’s squad are in a bad way. Two weekends ago there were talks of a quadruple and now even a treble is off the cards. This form could ultimately seep through to the Premier League, which is brilliant news for Man City.

The Carabao Cup winners are still chasing the league title and if Arsenal do drop points, there is still a chance of success.

Plus, while Arsenal will be distracted by the Champions League this week, City will be able to focus fully on their match against Chelsea next Sunday. This gives them an advantage which could end up being really important in the weeks to come.
