- Alan Shearer has changed his mind on Man City
- He is backing them to defeat Liverpool
- Says they could go all the way in the FA Cup
Alan Shearer has made his prediction for Manchester City’s meeting with Liverpool, while assessing the club’s FA Cup hopes as a whole.
Manchester City are in action this weekend, with the aim of setting up another cup fixture at Wembley Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s team have already lifted a trophy at the national ground this season and they are just three victories away from adding another to their cabinet.
Liverpool are the latest side looking to stand in the way of Man City, but belief will be high in the hosts’ camp after their Carabao Cup success.
Alan Shearer predicts Man City to win the FA Cup
Interestingly, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer is backing Man City only to defeat Liverpool, but to win the FA Cup.
This may come as a surprise, considering Shearer backed the Magpies to beat Man City in the previous round of the competition.
“The confidence and the belief that City will have after winning the Carabao Cup, and the way they did, will give them great belief and confidence to go again,” Shearer told Metro.
“There’s a lot of talk about Pep, and will he be here next season? Obviously, there’s a lot of talk about Liverpool and how poor they’ve been.
“For both clubs, there are huge talking points, but I think City will have enough to get through and I think they could go all the way in the FA Cup.”
Man City might need to defeat Arsenal again
Two weeks ago, Man City got the better of Arsenal for the first time in three years. In order to win the FA Cup, they may have to beat the Gunners once more.
Mikel Arteta’s men are the clear favourites against Southampton, while a future cup fixture against Chelsea could be on the cards, as the Blues play Port Vale in the quarter-finals.
Should both these London based teams win, City would prefer to face the winner of West Ham and Leeds if they reach the semi-finals.
However, another clash against Arsenal would still be highly likely in order for the Sky Blues to win English football’s oldest trophy.
