- May City are about to play their eighth FA Cup quarter-final in a row
- The Citizens have won seven success fixtures at this stage of the competition
- Liverpool will be the team taking on City this time around
Manchester City are looking to win an eighth consecutive FA Cup quarter-final when Liverpool visit the Etihad Stadium this Saturday.
Here is a list of the previous seven, some of which helped Man City on their way to lifting English football’s oldest trophy.
Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final results
Bournemouth 1-2 Man City – 2024/25
Man City were the team doing the travelling in the quarters last season and things almost went very badly. Erling Haaland was unable to convert a 14th minute penalty and Evanilson scored for the hosts seven minutes later. However, second half goals from the Norwegian and Omar Marmoush gave City the victory.
Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle – 2023/24
Watching Man City knock Newcastle out of cup competitions has been a common theme this season and it happened two years ago as well. Bernardo Silva scored both goals to secure his team a comfortable enough win.
Man City 6-0 Burnley – 2022/23
Haaland was the hat-trick hero as Man City brutally dismantled a woeful Burnley team. Julian Alvarez chipped in with a brace, while Cole Palmer also landed on the scoresheet.
Southampton 1-4 Man City – 2021/22
Man City went into half-time level at St Mary’s Stadium, after an Aymeric Laporte own goal cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opener. However Kevin De Bruyne restored their lead just after an hour, before Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez finished the game off.
Everton 0-2 Manchester City – 2020/21
The Toffees did well to keep Man City at bay for the most part, but Ilkay Gundogan scored a diving header in the 84th minute. Everton committed plenty of players forward, leading to a 90th minute strike by De Bruyne to hand the visitors a win.
Newcastle 0-2 Man City – 2019/20
Do Man City ever lose to Newcastle in domestic cups? It would seem not. De Bruyne scored from the penalty spot against the Magpies in a rare summer fixture, which had been delayed due to the pandemic. Later on, Sterling made it two to complete a dominant display by the Sky Blues.
Swansea 2-3 Man City – 2018/19
The Citizens almost suffered a disastrous defeat to a Championship opposition. Matt Grimes opened with a 20th minute penalty and Bersant Celina doubled the Welsh club’s lead nine minutes later. Silva pulled one back for City with 21 minutes left to play and an own goal levelled the score. Then with just two minutes left on the clock, Sergio Aguero wrapped up the win.
Man City will fancy their chances of making it eight wins in a row
Pep Guardiola’s record in the FA Cup quarter-finals is quite brilliant and he will be determined to register another victory, especially as this could be his final campaign at the club.
Man City have already defeated Liverpool twice this season and their home Premier League fixture was a 3-0 thrashing.
Therefore, City have every reason to be confident ahead of what should be a thrilling contest on Saturday afternoon.
