  • John Stones is out of contract this summer
  • His minutes have been limited throughout the season
  • Man City have decided whether to extend the defender’s stay

Manchester City have made a decision on whether or not John Stones will remain at the club next season.

John Stones missed most of last season due to various injuries and the current campaign has not been much better.

The England international missed two months of action due to a thigh problem. However, he has not been starting matches outside this period anyway.

Stones has not played in the Premier League since the beginning of December. In fact, his only two appearances this year have come in the FA Cup, against Salford City and Newcastle respectively.

Worse still, Stones missed the international break due to yet another injury concern and it remains to be seen when he will next play a game of football.

Man City will not offer John Stones a new contract

According to talkSPORT, Man City have no plans to provide Stones with a new deal beyond this summer, news which will come as no surprise.

The 31-year-old is receiving interest from Everton, a decade after he left the Toffees to join his current team.

Although Stones has almost finished his journey at the Citizens, he can hold his head high for everything he has accomplished. After all, winning six Premier League titles and becoming a champion of Europe is no easy feat.

Stones is no longer needed at Man City

Even if Stones was not prone to constant injuries, his future at Man City might be in doubt. Marc Guehi signed midway through the season of course and Abdukodir Khusanov keeps on looking sharper.

City also have a future prospect in Vitor Reis. The 20-year-old is currently playing for Girona, but he will return to the Etihad this summer.

Therefore, while Stones has been an excellent servant of the club, now is the right time for him to bid farewell and part ways with Pep Guardiola’s team.
