  • France took on Colombia in an international friendly
  • Les Bleus won the match 3-1
  • Rayan Cherki started

Rayan Cherki was part of the France team who defeated Colombia during an international friendly ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

France have been in the US to fulfil two friendly fixtures against opponents from South America. Their first match, against Brazil, ended in a 2-1 victory, but Rayan Cherki had no involvement.

However, the Man City attacker did start for his country on Sunday as they defeated Colombia, thanks to Macrus Thuram’s strike and a Desire Doue double.

Cherki did not manage to record any goal contributions, but all the reviews of his performance are generally quite positive.

Rayan Cherki’s stats for France against Colombia

For 78 minutes, Cherki sought to create problems for Colombia’s backline and he kept a pass accuracy rate of 90 per cent.

The 22-year-old showcased his innovation, creating three chances and playing five passes into the opposition penalty area.

Cherki also won eight of his 10 duels and five free kicks, while he did not commit a foul across the entire match.

It was a strong showing from the man who lined up in attacking midfield. In fact, he was awarded a 7.9 rating by Fotmob, making him the third best player on the pitch.

Cherki will want to start for Man City this weekend

With Cherki getting another taste of first-team action for France, he will be keen to jump straight back into the starting lineup at Manchester City.

Cherki started the Carabao Cup final directly before the international break and he also completed 90 minutes against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Pep Guardiola does not always play a full strength team for cup fixtures and Man City’s next match is in the FA Cup.

Still, it is a quarter-final against Liverpool and the Catalan manager may decide he wants his best players on the pitch.

Therefore, Cherki could be back in action pretty soon. Even if he is not selected, the Frenchman should get plenty of minutes in what remains of the Premier League campaign.
