  • Nathan Ake has not been a first-team starter this season
  • However he did play in the Carabao Cup final
  • The defender thinks this would be a good way to end his Man City spell

Nathan Ake started the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, but his days at the Etihad Stadium could be numbered.

This season has seen Nathan Ake become a fringe player at Manchester City, with the defender starting just 14 matches in all competitions.

Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Ait-Nouri have been preferred at left-back, while there is plenty of competition at the heart of Man City’s defence.

Therefore, it would have seemed obvious that Ake was on his way out of the club this summer, but this is no longer a given after last weekend.

The 31-year-old started the Carabao Cup final and he held his own as Man City conquered Arsenal at Wembley, raising question marks over whether he could stay put.

Nathan Ake does not know when he will depart Man City

Ake is neither confirming nor denying if he will leave the Citizens this summer. In fact, he has revealed that he has ‘no idea’ when he will part ways with the Carabao Cup winners.

However, according to Sport Witness, the Dutchman has made a comment about his team’s recent success which indicates he might not have long left at Man City.

“I have no idea,” Ake said when asked about his future beyond this season, “but winning the Carabao would certainly be a nice ending.”

Ake is good enough to be a regular starter

Even though Man City have only occasionally needed Ake during the 2025/26 campaign, he has the ability to be playing at a high level on a weekly basis.

This has been proven by the fact Ake just received a Netherlands call-up, a country who already have defensive options including Virgil van Dijk and Micky van de Ven.

So if Ake does decide to look for a new venture this summer, his decision will be respected and he can leave with his head held high.
