- Tijjani Reijnders is set to play in his first final for Man City
- He says his team are hungry for a victory
- However, it remains unknown if the midfielder will start the match.
Tijjani Reijnders has spoken about Manchester City’s desire to win the Carabao Cup ahead of his first final with the club.
Manchester City are out of the Champions League and the Premier League title is a long shot, but come Sunday night, there could be a trophy heading to the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens only need one more victory to win the Carabao Cup and there is no shortage of motivation in Pep Guardiola’s camp.
This is especially true as Man City have some new stars who have never won a trophy before in their careers, or at least not in England.
Tijjani Reijnders reveals how much Man City want to lift the Carabao Cup
For Tijjani Reinjders, Man City’s clash against Arsenal is one of the biggest moments of his career and winning it would turn this into a dream first season at the club.
The midfielder does have an Italian Super Cup to his name, but he is ‘very hungry’ for more, along with his teammates.
Reijnders told The National: “it’s a really important trophy for us. Any chance to win silverware means a lot, especially at this stage of the season when momentum is so important.
“A final is always a big occasion, and lifting a cup can give us a lot of confidence and extra boost going into the rest of the campaign. We know how tough this game is, but this is what we’re here for – to compete for titles and to play in these big occasions.
“We’ve got players who are experiencing their first season – including myself – others who haven’t played in a final before, so it’s a brilliant chance to feel what it’s like to win something, especially at Wembley,” he continued.
“You can see how much it means to everyone – we’re all very hungry and want to experience that winning feeling.
“It’ll be my first time playing at Wembley and to do it with City is something I’m really proud of. I can’t wait to play in front of the City fans too – I heard more than 35,000 of them will be there, which is amazing. Hopefully we can make it a special day for them.”
Reijnders will be eager for a chance from Pep Guardiola
Even though Reijnders has made 43 appearances for Man City this season, many of these have been made off the bench, which would indicate he will not start in the League Cup final.
However, the Dutchman played a full 90 minutes against Brentford in the quarter-finals, registering an assist in the process.
Reijnders also started the home semi against Newcastle and he landed on the scoresheet during that match.
Therefore, the 27-year-old might be hopeful of keeping his spot in the starting lineup. He just needs the trust and backing of his manager in order to make this happen.
