Pep Guardiola has made a change to Manchester City’s schedule ahead of their Champions League second leg tie against Real Madrid.
Manchester City are preparing to take on Real Madrid tomorrow for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The task facing Pep Guardiola and his team is one which will not be easy to accomplish, with the Spanish club currently leading the tie by three goals.
However, the Man City boss is hoping to help his team by altering their timetable ahead of Tuesday night’s clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola cancels Manchester City training
According to Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola has made the decision to cancel Man City’s last training session before Real Madrid come to town.
UEFA requires all competing clubs to partake in a 15-minute open training session before their matches, which is usually held on the day of the manager’s pre-match press conference.
However, Man City will attempt to get around this by sending the European football governing authority 15 minutes of Sunday’s session to be used by broadcasters.
This is not the first time Guardiola has cancelled City’s open training on the eve of a Champions League match, as he did the same in November before they placed Borussia Dortmund.
Guardiola has made the correct call
Man City travelled to London on Saturday night and trained on Sunday, so it makes sense that Guardiola wants his players to have a break before another huge game.
When he did this previously before the Dortmund fixture, it turned out to be a good decision, with City winning the match 4-1.
Guardiola will be hoping for the same again, with his team requiring a three-goal margin victory just to take the tie to extra time.
