Manchester City are ‘desperate’ to beat West Ham, says Pep Guardiola

West Ham could use a point at the very least in their quest for Premier League survival, but Manchester City have an agenda of their own.

London Stadium is the place to be on Saturday night, as West Ham host Manchester City in the Premier League.

Both clubs were victorious in their FA Cup fifth round ties last weekend. West Ham knocked Brentford out of the competition on penalties, while Man City stormed to a 3-1 victory over Newcastle.

However, City suffered a heavy midweek defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League, so bouncing back with a win over the Hammers would be important for more reasons than one.

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are despeare for a victory

When Pep Guardiola appeared before the media ahead of the West Ham game, a lot of emphasis was placed on the hosts and how they need more points to stay up.

Despite this, Guardiola has reminded them that a win is just as important to Man City in order to prevent Arsenal from growing their seven-point lead.

During the manager’s pre-match press conference, he was told that West Ham were desperate for points, prompting the response: “We are desperate [too].”

Later on, Guardiola added: “If we drop points, it [the Premier League title race] is over.”

Man City need a win more than West Ham

This may seem controversial, especially to a West Ham fan, but it is more essential for Man City to claim all three points on Saturday night.

The Irons are only in the relegation zone on goal difference and while Nottingham Forest could get a result against Fulham, Tottenham are unlikely to take any points off Liverpool. Following this, there are still eight matches remaining for each team.

For Man City, the situation is very different because any further dropped points and Arsenal are probably too far ahead for them to have a chance of winning the league.

Therefore, City have to show how much the three points are needed by delivering a performance to remember when they take to the Stratford pitch.
