Patrice Evra has heaped praise on Rayan Cherki while making an assessment of what it is like fitting in at a team managed by Pep Guardiola.
Rayan Cherki has been kept fairly quiet recently, with a few of his recent Premier Legaue appearances being made off the bench.
However, the winger bagged an assist during his most recent start, when Manchester City drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.
Cherki will be hoping to contribute to his team’s attacking threat again when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League and it seems his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Patrice Evra describes Rayan Cherki as a ‘blessing’
While Cherki plays for Manchester City, he is also a representative of the French national team, causing Man United legend Patrice Evra to have his say on the star.
According to Evra, Cherki is a ‘fun’ player to watch and the game needs more professionals with his mindset and desire to entertain.
He told Stake: “Rayan Cherki is the kind of player football is missing. All ex-players like myself are crying to have more players like Cherki. They are fun.
“It’s difficult to work under Pep Guardiola, he can be strict tactically and doesn’t like flair as much as others, but I think Cherki is a blessing to the football world.
“When I see him playing, I feel I’m watching him on the street. He’s adapting to Guardiola’s system still and getting more minutes. When I see these players, it makes me want more of them.”
Cherki will want to replicate his brilliant run at the end of last year
Guardiola is a very strategic manager and he often ensures his players operate in specific roles, which can limit their freedom.
Despite this, the Man City boss has shown that this way of doing things is effective and if Cherki can keep adapting, he could do great things for the club.
The 22-year-old already had a brilliant string of games in November and December last year which saw him involved in a lot of goals. If he can repeat that between now and the end of the season, that definitely increased City’s chances of winning trophies.
