Manchester City could be given the opportunity this summer to land a defender who has long been on the club’s radar.
The right-back position has been an issue for Manchester City ever since the departure of Kyle Walker, with the search for his ideal replacement still ongoing.
It has been reported that Man City want to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle and would even be willing to spend big in order to bring the English international to the Etihad Stadium.
However, there is another right-back who has been linked with the club over a number of transfer windows and he could be available to buy this summer.
Man City could finally be able to sign Denzel Dumfries
Manchester City attempted to solve their right-back troubles last summer by signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, but they were ultimately unsuccessful in their pursuit.
However, according to Tutto Mercato Web (as relayed by Football Insider), a £21.9m release clause in Dumfries’ contract will become active in July.
This gives City a second chance to sign the 29-year-old, although Liverpool also remain interested, after pursuing a deal in January.
Man City want to replace Matheus Nunes
Apparently, replacing Nunes is one of Man City’s top priorities as while he is a regular starter, there are concerns about whether he can continue to play as a right-back in the long-term.
The Portuguese star has made 34 appearances for his club this season, registering six assists in total. However, he traditionally plays as a midfielder and could be moved back to this position in the future.
Therefore, City want to sign a natural right-back and Dumfries is a good senior option who would bring experience to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
