Erling Haaland has a wide range of abilities and John Terry believes there is something he does which not many strikers attempt in the modern game.
Erling Haaland makes football look easy and he has already surpassed 20 Premier League goals for a third successive season.
The forward has also displayed how good he is at creating chances, registering seven league assists up to this point, which gives him a chance of making this his best campaign on record.
To put it simply, Haaland is one of the very best around and according to ex-Chelsea defender John Terry, there is something special and unique about the Norweigen.
John Terry explains what makes Erling Haaland different
Terry has spent time as an academy coach at Chelsea, so he has a good understanding of how the strikers of the next generation choose to play.
The former England international has explained that they tend to move out wide and receive the ball at their feet, but Haaland gets close to the opposition and makes runs behind the defence.
Terry told Simon Phillips: “In the academy at Chelsea we have number 9s that have drifted away into, I call it the Thierry [Henry] role kind of out wide because they want the ball to feet. They want to kind of face the defender.
“I don’t see too many players other than Haaland in today’s football that get on the shoulder of a centre half and want to stretch and make those runs in behind as well.”
Haaland will keep doing what he does best
In a recent press conference, Pep Guardiola was asked if Haaland needed a new challenge, including one which would see him take up a wider position in Man City’s attack.
However, the 25-year-old does a brilliant job in a central position and there is no need to disrupt this with positional experimentation.
City’s focus right now is not on trying new things, but sticking to what they know as the push for the Premier League title continues.
