Bernardo Silva has been delighting Manchester City fans with his performances, but he could end up being out of action when he is needed the most.
It is no surprise to see Bernardo Silva having a good season and he produced another fine performance as Man City brushed Newcastle aside in their most recent fixture.
Silva covered 12.4km of ground, created two chances and made 10 defensive contributions across the 90 minutes.
However, the Portuguese international received a booking early in the second half and could have been sent off just a minute later. Silva launched himself into Dan Burn, leaving the referee with a decision which thankfully went in his favour.
Bernardo Silva could be suspended for Man City’s clash with Arsenal
Although Silva got away with this incident, he is still running the risk of picking up a two-match suspension, having received three yellow cards in his past three games and eight overall.
If the midfielder is shown a further two bookings in any of Man City’s next five Premier League clashes, he will miss the following two matches.
This means Silva would miss his team’s all-important fixture against Arsenal if he sees yellow twice in their next three meetings which are against Leeds, West Ham and Chelsea respectively.
Silva needs to be more disciplined
Silva looks more aggressive than ever this season, which provides Man City with a host of benefits, but he needs to find the right balance in using his physicality.
Getting yellow cards in three successive matches is not good enough and it would be even worse if the club captain missed the Arsenal game due to his own behaviour.
Based on the current Premier League table, City’s battle with Arsenal could end up essentially being another cup final and Pep Guardiola will need all the help he can get.
