Rodri has praised Manchester City’s latest community gesture ahead of this weekend’s Premier League meeting with Brentford.

Man City are preparing to celebrate their annual Community Mathday ahead of their match against Brentford this weekend.

The fixture will place City in the Community (CITC) at the centre of the matchday, with the club’s charity set to receive support from the first-team squad.

The Sky Blues will continue the trend of the players backing local projects in Manchester. Last year, the Citizens contributed by helping almost 700 children through free football sessions.

Rodri explains why Man City charity initiative is ‘special’

Man City players have donated a six-figure sum to City in the Community. The money is set to fund the City Mentoring programme for a full 12 months.

Manchester Evening News reported that the programme will provide one-to-one support for vulnerable young people in need of help.

“It’s always important, of course, to help people in the local area across Manchester. For me, the kids are the most important part, so to give them this donation enables us to support them through difficult situations they might unfortunately live daily”, Rodri said.

The Spaniard added, “The Community Matchday is a special day; I hope that everyone who’s there enjoys it as it’s a very important initiative.”

Nico O’Reilly shares personal view on Man City community work

City will also mark the initiative across the Etihad Stadium during the Brentford game, with the players set to wear CITC-branded jackets.

The stadium will also be renamed The City in the Community Etihad Stadium for the day. Ruben Dias has also recorded travel announcements on tram and bus routes to the Etihad.

On the other hand, social media player graphs have been hand-drawn by local schoolchildren. Homegrown midfielder Nico O’Reilly also explained what this work means to him.

“Supporting the club’s charity means a lot, we all know how good they are at supporting the local community. Growing up in Manchester and being part of that same community, it means a lot to me that we can give back”, O’Reilly told Manchester Evening News.

Having grown up in Manchester and come through City’s pathway, O’Reilly’s involvement adds local connection to the initiative.

Man City donation has practical value beyond matchday gesture

The donation isn’t attached to just one symbolic matchday. By covering the City Mentoring programme for a full year, Man City aims to provide consistent support rather than a short-term intervention.

This consistency will provide vulnerable children with a chance to build trust with the same mentors. The routine will be an important aspect for helping children who may be dealing with difficult situations.

The Community Matchday will give initiative visibility. However, the value creation will be away from the stadium through Man City’s support for the programme.
