Manchester City Player Ratings: Burnley (H)

Manchester City cemented their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup and kept their chances of a quadruple alive with a 4-1 win against Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.

The hosts previously played an out-of-form Watford side and comfortably defeated their opponents in a 3-1 victory to consolidate their 15 point lead over Manchester United. The last time City played Burnley was in October as they continued their winning streak in the league and further their advantage over their rivals in a 3-0 win. Goals from Sergio Aguero, Nicolas Otamendi and Leroy Sane ensured the hosts took all three points.

The first half was an absolute shambles for the hosts as Burnley took a shock lead as a rare John Stones mistake allowed Ashley Barnes in to rifle the ball past Claudio Bravo. In the second half, the home side improved and equalised four minutes before the hour mark as Ilkay Gundogan’s quick free-kick found Sergio Aguero, who slotted the ball past Nick Pope. In just under a minute, Aguero doubled his and City’s goal tally as he latched on to Gundogan’s back-heel to round Pope to make it 2-1. With just under 20 minutes to go, Leroy Sane’s one-two with David Silva allowed the German to sprint past the Burnley backline to get his first goal in 1,085 minutes of action. The game was officially sealed with nine minutes to go as a fantastic pass from substitute Kevin De Bruyne released Leroy Sane down the left flank, who rounded a hapless Pope to square the ball to Bernardo Silva for the Portuguese’s third goal for City.

A big win for Pep Guardiola’s men as they carry on their unbeaten run in domestic competitions.
