Manchester City set a new Premier League record of consecutive wins as they comfortably saw off a poor Swansea City side in a 4-0 win at the Liberty Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s men came into the game off the back of an impressive performance against title rivals and neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford in a 2-1 win. This extended their advantage over their rivals to 11 points, with 21 games remaining. Opponents Swansea City had previously defeated West Bromwich Albion in a 1-0 win at the same venue, with former City man Wilfried Bony converting to help the Swans on their way to escaping the relegation zone.
The game started in typical City fashion, with the away side dominating the opening proceedings. The first goal came after 27 minutes, with David Silva converting from a fantastic Bernardo Silva cross to give City a deserved advantage. A second goal came along just seven minutes later, with a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick finding its way past a number of players in the box, including Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski to make it 2-0 to City.
After the break, the away side continued to dominate and made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute through David Silva again, after he played a one-two with Raheem Sterling before chipping the ball delicately over Fabianski. With five minutes remaining, it became 4-0 as Sergio Aguero’s solo run and finish sealed the three points for the Citizens.
