Manchester City continued their unbeaten start to the season as they thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium, which puts them top of the league on goal difference.
Pep Guardiola’s men came into the game on the back of a 6-0 victory away to Watford last weekend, which ended the Hornets’ unbeaten start. Crystal Palace have had a disastrous start to the season, which has seen them lose their now former manager Frank De Boer after just four games in charge. Ever since, they have appointed former England manager Roy Hodgson to try to steady the ship. They have now lost all six of their league games and haven’t even scored a goal yet.
The game started off in Palace’s favour, as they started off well-drilled to withstand City’s juggernaut attack. This only lasted for just 44 minutes, as Leroy Sane opened the scoring for the home side. After a weighted David Silva pass found the German, he lifted the ball over a hapless Scott Dann to prod home past Wayne Hennessey.
In the second half, Palace tried to show renewed belief that they could get something out of the game, but that was ultimately crushed when Raheem Sterling converted after a fantastic cross from Sane six minutes into the second half. Eight minutes later, the game was over as Sterling scored from close range after Sergio Aguero’s cut-back. Aguero got his goal after heading home from yet another great Sane delivery to put his all-time City tally to 176, two off Eric Brook’s record. With a minute of normal time remaining, Fabian Delph came off the bench to score a fantastic curled shot to condemn Palace to more misery at the bottom of the league.
