Manchester City showed true dominance and sheer class as they achieved an authoritative 6-0 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.
After a week which saw Guardiola’s men destroy Liverpool 5-0 and Feyenoord 4-0, City carried on their superb form with a win against the Hornets, who were having a good start to the season under new manager Marco Silva. Despite managing a draw against Liverpool on the first day of the campaign, Watford struggled to deal with the relentless and superior attack that City possess, culminating in a humiliating defeat.
The visitors opened the scoring after 27 minutes, with Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick finding Sergio Aguero for a simple header. It was 2-0 just four minutes later with the Argentinian scoring yet again from a tap-in, after good build-up play from Gabriel Jesus and a great final pass from David Silva. Before half-time, Jesus got his name on the score sheet as he drilled the ball home after a cut-back from Aguero, despite calls for offside from Watford’s defence.
The Hornets had managed to keep three clean sheets before this game, and were determined to bring back some pride after the break. Andre Carrillo and Richarlison had the best chances for the home side. After that, City pushed ahead for more goals and were successful when Nicolas Otamendi rose highest to head home for 4-0. Aguero completed his hat-trick for 5-0 with a waltzing run and finish, with Sterling converting a late penalty to seal the victory.
