Manchester City got back to winning ways as they comfortably beat Hull City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium to consolidate their position in the top four.
Before the game, City were on a four-game winless run after losing 2-1 to league leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Hull City are fighting for survival and previously beat Middlesbrough 4-2 at the KC Stadium on Wednesday to move out of the relegation zone. The Tigers have shown signs of improvement under manager Marco Silva, which has resulted in their resurgence up the table.
City controlled the game from start to finish, having the majority of possession and shots. Hull were set up to contain City’s attack and hit them on the break, with the pace and power of Oumar Niasse to act as the spearhead to their counter-attacks.
City took the lead just before half-time after Ahmed Elmohamady turned in a low, dangerous cross by Jesus Navas.
At the start of the second half, a great run from Raheem Sterling set up Sergio Aguero, who’s powerful effort flew past Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic for his tenth goal in ten games.
Fabian Delph added a third for the Citizens after a driven shot from outside of the box was lashed in, leaving Jakupovic no chance of saving it. Hull managed to pull one back near the end of the game through Andrea Ranocchia, which Claudio Bravo failed to deal with as it trickled into the net.
