Manchester City and Arsenal played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.
With Chelsea slipping up against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Pep Guardiola’s men were looking to capitalize by beating the Gunners, who before this game had lost four league games out of their last five.
On a whole, the game was intense. It had end-to-end action and massive talking points. The defensive performances from both sides epitomized their seasons in a nutshell.
City took the lead early on through Leroy Sane, a man who had previously scored seven goals from his last twelve shots on goal. The German winger was played through by team-mate Kevin De Bruyne. He managed to hold off Hector Bellerin and run past Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina to put the Citizens ahead.
As half-time approached, Arsenal managed to equalise through Theo Walcott, who seems to always score against Manchester City. After a scramble in the City box, Walcott latched on to a loose ball and slotted it past Willy Caballero to level the tie.
Straight after, however, City regained their lead through Sergio Aguero after he was played through by David Silva to put the Citizens ahead at the break.
Early in the second half, Arsenal once again drew the game level. Mesut Ozil’s corner found Shkodran Mustafi, who headed in to make it 2-2. Despite an intense finale, both sides earned a point.
