Iheanacho plans to stay at City beyond this summer

Speaking to Nigerian news outlet Punch Newspapers, Kelechi Iheanacho has spoken of how he plans to stay at Manchester City beyond this summer and has ruled out joining any other Premier League club.

I’m very happy and very grateful to be in this team. I keep working hard every day and when I get my chance I have to prove to everyone I need to be in the squad.

Despite some impressive performances this season, City manager Pep Guardiola has limited Iheanacho’s game time, where he only seems to play in the cup competitions or in cameo appearances in league games.

However, despite his limited appearances this campaign, the young Nigerian has vowed to fight for his place in the team, with his main competition being recent acquisition Gabriel Jesus and main goalscorer Sergio Aguero. Iheanacho has scored seven goals from 24 appearances.

It’s a great squad with great players. Everyone is working really hard. So, everyone should be happy being in this team. It’s a great team. The supporters give us everything.

So, we need to keep fighting for the team and the fans. I am improving every day. I keep learning and improving and that will help me in the future. I love it here.

Iheanacho was a breakthrough star in former City manager Manuel Pellegrini’s final season in charge. He scored 14 goals in 35 appearances in the last campaign and he impressed as a secondary option for Sergio Aguero.
