Manchester City’s Champions League journey began on Tuesday night as they faced Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of the play-off round.
In what many thought would be a difficult tie for City with the first leg taking place in Romania, City cruised to a 5-0 win.
The Champions League is the competition in which Guardiola’s style and philosophy truly shines and it was evident in this match.
Against a more defensively minded team like Sunderland last Saturday, City found it difficult to break down as there were mostly 11 players behind the ball, however, against Bucharest, City were able to constantly attack Bucharest’s penalty area.
This was because when Bucharest’s attacks were stopped by the City defence, the opposition were not tracking back which allowed a swift counter attack from City and if the Blues were a bit more clinical the score could have easily been double figures.
Regardless of the finishing, City’s performance last night was one to behold.
