Pep’s first Champions League encounter at the helm of City went perfectly, as The Sky Blues rocked Romanian big boys Steaua Bucuresti with a comfortable 5-0 victory. Passing was quicker, silkier and more meaningful than on Saturday, but in all honesty, Steaua were not in the same league as City.
Ignoring the mistakes they constantly made, Steaua handed City acres of space numerous times, and the visitors punished them for it. Raheem Sterling was as tricky as he was on Saturday in assisting David Silva’s opener, which was between Sergio Aguero’s two missed penalties.
Just five minutes before half-time, City doubled up and Aguero finally got his goal; again, another Sterling assist, this time gently laying off the Argentine. Then in the second half, Nolito got off the mark when he rounded the Romanian goalkeeper, Nita, before finishing into an empty net.
Aguero finished an expected hat-trick with two and City take a five-goal advantage into the second leg next Wednesday. Ratings were high in this impressive, attacking display and here’s how Guardiola’s boys were ranked.
