Manchester City centre-back Jason Denayer is unhappy with his lack of action during the club’s pre-season preparations and is considering leaving in search of first-team football, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Denayer, 21, travelled to Gothenburg to face Arsenal in the final friendly of pre-season but, despite City boss Pep Guardiola fielding a makeshift centre-back pairing of Fernando and Aleksandar Kolarov, did not feature in the game.
Since Guardiola’s arrival, Denayer has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad. Having already been out-of-favour, 18-year-old Tosin Adarabioyo has also leapt ahead of him in Guardiola’s plans.
The Belgian spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, where he made 28 appearances. Club manager Olde Riekering has also stated that they would be interested in re-signing Denayer if he were to become available.
He was an important player for us but now City are deciding whether they are going to keep him at the club next season.
Denayer’s representatives will be searching for potential suitors in the coming days, and the versatile youngster could be a distant memory by the end of the transfer window.
