Pep Guardiola praises ‘special’ Manchester City during press conference for freezing ticket prices

Pep Guardiola has offered high praise to those in charge of Manchester City for listening to the club’s supporters regarding ticket prices.

Manchester City have recently seen the establishment of a Supporters Trust, who quickly set out their aim to be a voice against rising ticket prices.

This has already proved to be effective, as it was today announced that season ticket prices will be frozen for next season.

Therefore, while Manchester United fans are having to empty their pockets and spend even more, City’s followers will continue to pay the same costs as before.

Pep Guardiola is pleased with Man City’s decision

The decision made by Man City on ticket prices has come as music to Pep Guardiola’s ears, as he believes in the principle that football is about the fans.

“Hats off to my chairman and CEO. This business, it does not work without the fans,” Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference

“Remember how it was in Covid without people in our stadium. Our club financially needs to have the resources to buy the best possible and continue to pay players but when the club can find another way, the situation in the world is difficult and not increasing the tickets means a lot.

“How special is this club. Tomorrow they will come back. The last two or three games at home, we can be there. I don’t pay attention to other clubs, they can do what they want.”

Turning his attention to the summer, Guardiola continued: “Years and years and years ago the World Cup it was a celebration for the joy of football and travelling from other continents to see your country, everything was affordable.

“Modern times right? Everything is so expensive. I am not there so I don’t know the reason why. Football is for the fans. They have to think about sponsors and all this other stuff because otherwise it won’t be sustainable. Everybody knows it.

“But the fans are the key, the key for this business to go on.”

Man City have an expanded stadium to fill

Once Man City’s North Stand expansion is complete, there will be more than 60,000 seats to be filled at the Etihad Stadium.

Already this season, there have been cup matches when the ground has seen thousands of sky blue seats remain empty.

This highlights that the club have made the correct decision to freeze season ticket prices for a third successive season, as the cheaper the tickets are, the more City should be able to sell.

City need their fans onside

Manchester City have reached an important part of their season, and they have a great chance to win a domestic treble.

However, Arsenal are right on their heels in the Premier League, which means the players will need everyone to get behind them and provide the energy required to make one big push.

With the supporters backing the club, anything is possible and there should not be an empty seat in sight at the Etihad any time between now and the end of May.
