Four findings: Southampton 4-2 Manchester City

Manchester City continued their unwelcomed trend of abysmal performances against sides in the top half, succumbing to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Southampton.

Manuel Pellegrini made a series of changes in the City side and they were immediately outplayed and outfought by an electric Southampton side – who were 2-0 up inside 30 minutes.

Kelechi Iheanacho was the only one who turned up for City and continued his excellent goalscoring form. But unfortunately, the rest of the City side were dismal and were punished by the likes of Sadio Mane, who scored a hat-trick.

It was a carbon copy of City’s performances on the road – lacking fight, organisation and any sort of invention. Clearly it is not the ideal preparation going into the club’s biggest game of the season, but it was also a huge missed opportunity for City to near enough nail down a top four place.

Here is what we learned from the game.
