Joe Hart believes that City have what it takes to win the Champions League this season.
The Blues face Russian side Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday night in the last 16 of the competition, with the possibility of an appearance in the last eight right there for the taking against opposition significantly weaker than the two sides City have faced at this stage before.
And Hart believes that Pellegrini’s men can go even further than the quarter-finals.
He told the official Manchester City site:
We’ve got to believe that we can win it, or else there is no point in turning up on Wednesday. We’ve got to believe we’ve got what it takes. You know, it’s the best of the best and if you’re not at your best you will lose, simple as that, in this competition. So it’s all about peaking for the game and being in the right place at the right time.
Hart went on to talk about the Champions League as a competition and how important it is as City look to fight in three fonts after being knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend.
He said:
It’s an amazing competition, it’s something we really look forward to as a team. But we’re very lucky that we’re involved in a lot of competitions.
The majority of the time when it comes to the Champions League, we’re still fighting on all fronts, and this is a good time to be a Manchester City player and a good time to be fighting.
Hart is expected to retain his place in goal for the trip to Kiev after back-up keeper Willy Caballero was put between the sticks for Sunday’s FA Cup loss at Chelsea, a defeat which ended City’s quadruple hopes but enabled them to concentrate on other competitions.
