- Rayan Cherki in form
- Antoine Semenyo full of praise for midfielder
- Says he makes life easier for his teammates
Rayan Cherki has recently delivered his best performances in a Manchester City shirt, prompting high praise from Antoine Semenyo.
Last Sunday saw Rayan Cherki record two assists against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and they were both very much deserved.
The way the Frenchman set up Marc Guehi was particularly impressive, as he played a pass which required exceptional vision and precision.
Cherki is fast becoming one of the most talked about players in the Premier League, and this includes being the subject of some kind words by one of his own teammates.
Antoine Semenyo waxes lyrical over Rayan Cherki
When Cherki was not being selected, Man City were lacking that player who could provide moments of magic.
Now, this is no longer the case as the 22-year-old always has something in his locker to set up one of his teammates.
Heaping praise on the attacker, Antoine Semenyo told Men in Blazers: “Half the time, you don’t know what you’re expecting. But at the same time, whatever he does, it’s going to make a chance easier for other players.
“When you play as kids, you go off instinct, and that’s how he’s playing at the moment. And to be honest, that’s his style. He just likes to express himself, show what he can do, and he’s doing it well.
“No one can really stop him right now, so the more it continues, the more we have chances of scoring,” the Ghanaian continued.
“That’s what I’m thinking in my head half the time [applauding him]. I’m like, ‘What a player he is!’ He’s great as a teammate, great guy in the changing room. He’s got a bit of a personality which is nice, and when you get on the pitch you know he’s going to create a chance or score.”
Cherki is racking up assists
Currently, Cherki is averaging a Premier League assist once every 138 minutes, which is a better record than any other player in their debut season.
The France international has 10 league assists in total, despite only starting 15 matches, and he has recorded 13 in all competitions.
Only Bruno Fernandes has more expected assists in the Premier League, and no one has more per 90 minutes than Cherki.
Arsenal will dread facing Cherki
Although Cherki was not that influential during the Carabao Cup final, he has been phenomenal over the past couple of weeks.
The rising star has been the key to unlocking Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku’s threat on goal and he has combined well with Semenyo too.
Mikel Arteta’s team kept two clean sheets against Sporting CP in the Champions League, but they have been leaking goals domestically.
Therefore, there will be an element of fear within the North London club’s camp at the prospect of coming up against Cherki when he is at his best.
