Otamendi: City unfazed by pressure of being league leaders

Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi believes the team are not feeling the pressure of being favourites to win the Premier League title.

The Blues currently lead the way at the top of the table on goal difference following a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.

And while Otamendi acknowledges that there is a long season ahead, he welcomes the pressure of being top dogs in the division.

“It’s not easy to be in the position that we’re in at the moment because everyone looks at you as the principal candidate for winning the title, and there’s a long way to go yet.” he told ESPN FC.

Of course, we like to be up there, but it gives us extra pressure game after game. Anyway, we are a strong-minded team and we know how to handle that pressure.

Otamendi, a £32m plus signing from Valencia in the summer, has now seemingly established himself as Vincent Kompany’s partner in central defence.

And he has echoed words of his manager, stressing that City have a unique way of doing things – aiming to play attractive football while winning titles and accolades.

He said:

We can’t think only in that we want to win the title. We have to find a way of playing. The coach and all the group of players expect to play well. We don’t like to win without showing a style or a way of playing.
