Argentinian international and Valencia defender Nicolás Otamendi is allegedly in talks with both Manchester clubs.
Having been rumoured to be very close to a move to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window, it now seems that rivals City have joined the race to secure the 27-year-old.
Both clubs are said to be in talks for a move which they value at £35 million for the ex-Porto man.
With both Manchester clubs very active in the window thus far, Otamendi would follow the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Raheem Sterling and Memphis Depay in settling in the North West to ply their trade next season.
Talks of €40 million valued Eliaquim Mangala, bought by City last summer, going the other way have ensued the supposed talks between Otamendi’s agent and City representatives.
James Robson from the Manchester Evening News reports that central defence is not a priority for the Blues, with the highly rated Jason Denayer recently signing a new deal with the club. However, City have been monitoring Valencia’s Otamendi and if he is available, it may well be a deal not worth turning away from.
City and United are currently abroad taking part in their pre-season tours before the Premier League kicks off again in 19 days.
