There has been plenty to discuss since Manchester City overcame Arsenal with a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Here is an overview of the Manchester City new stories to have emerged during the day so far.

Pep Guardiola defends Gianluigi Donnarumma after error

The manager told Sky Sports: “What I like is the reaction of his mates! They were there to help him, that is what we worked on this season incredibly!

“When I see the teams that concede a goal and everybody is complaining and everybody is for themselves, I don’t like it.

“And they were together, and after [he] helped us with incredible saves.”

Opta Supercomputer updates predicted Premier League table

Before Man City’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal, the Opta Supercomputer gave them only a 14.8 per cent chance of winning the Premier League.

However, this has since been raised to 27 per cent, reflecting just how important it was for City to come out on top against their title rivals.

Although Arsenal are still deemed most likely to win the league, the Sky Blues face Burnley on Wednesday night. Win that, and the predicted table will be updated again in their favour.

Wayne Rooney waxes lyrical over Erling Haaland

Haaland was man-marked by Gabriel throughout Man City’s win over Arsenal, but he was able to deliver the key moment for his side despite the defender’s persistence.

Wayne Rooney has explained in detail what the centre forward did, and how this enabled him to win his battle against Gabriel.

He told Match of the Day 2: “It was a good old school battle wasn’t it, I think. He [Haaland] was causing him [Gabriel] problems all day.

“Here, just being in the right place, being a nuisance. Not switching off, anticipating where the ball’s going to drop.

“That’s a good touch and probably should do a bit better again with the finish,” Rooney said when watching a moment where Haaland missed a close range effort.

“Yeah and then this on the goal. I really like this. He’s always on the back of Gabriel. You can always see his number. And now Gabriel doesn’t know where he is, and then he gets involved.

“And once Gabriel gets involved, he loses focus, he loses positioning. Erling Haaland is a strong man, uses all his power and that’s a fantastic finish.

“He had these little battles, knocking him off his feet, making him have to touch him, have to foul him. He didn’t like it at all.”

The ex-United striker added: “And again here, he’s all over his back. Haaland’s being strong, being a nuisance. This is what you want to see from Erling Haaland in every game.

“If he does this, he is unplayable. And then a little bit of handbags and Gabriel’s probably a little bit lucky [not to be sent off].”

Pundits back Man City to win Premier League

After Sunday’s game, the Sky Sports panel were asked about what colour they expected the ribbons on the Premier League trophy to be at the end of the season.

Despite differences in opinion before the match, there was a general consensus that it would be Man City lifting the trophy on May 24.

“Man City won today. They’re going to be blue,” Micah Richards said.

Patrick Vieira added: “Listen, there’s still 15 points on the table, but if I have to answer the question, I will say they will have to blue.”

Gary Neville was next to offer his verdict, and he revealed that he was backing City to win the Premier League, having previously predicted a title triumph for Arsenal.

“For the first time this season, I’m going to say they’re probably going to be blue,” said the ex-United defender.

Finally, it was Roy Keane’s turn to offer his verdict and the Irishman made it clear he was not bothered about which team wins the Premier League.

Having played for Manchester United and grown up supporting Tottenham Hotspur, Keane has absolutely no affection for either team.

However, he made the decision to keep backing the Gunners, despite the fact City are in such  good form.

“I don’t care,” Keane said. “I’m going to have to stick with Arsenal.”

Dermot Gallagher claims ‘fair outcome’ not to send off Gabriel

Ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has come out in support of Taylor after his decision not to give Gabriel his marching orders.

Although Gallagher believes Gabriel was unwise, he reckons the decision was ‘fair’ because Haaland was aggressive during the match as well.

“It was a very fair outcome, both of them were aggressive, throughout the whole game, it just epitomised what was at stake,” Gallagher told Sky Sports Ref Watch

“Gabriel is very unwise what he does, it is not the cleverest thing to do and he runs a risk, but if you look, he actually goes does the front of him and not through him, he does not head but him.

“But he is very, very lucky that Haaland was very, very responsible because if he hits the deck, the whole landscape changes and the referee has a different situation to deal with.”

Pep Guardiola calls for Nico O’Reilly to win Young Player of the Season award

O’Reilly’s performance against Arsenal was just one of the many occasions where he has impressed this season

Whether playing in midfield or defence, the England international has shown himself to look comfortable in any area of the pitch.

Guardiola has been watching him closely, and he believes an end-of-season award really ought to be on the cards for the 21-year-old.

The Man City manager told Sky Sports: “He’s incredible – defensively, offensively, in set pieces. What a player he is becoming! Playing in different positions. He’s exceptional!

“Nico, today, has been [top] defensively, offensively, with the pace, keeping the ball, having the composure to take it. Again, arriving in the final third, provoking the second goal.

“What a season! I don’t know if he’s the best player [of the season], but the young one? Guys! It has to be delivered!”
