According to the Sunday Mirror, City will move for Lars Bender in the summer if they fail to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, a move which has been heavily rumoured with the Frenchman thought to be high up on the list of transfer targets for The Blues this summer.
There were reports in Spanish press recently that Pogba wants a move to Barcelona instead of moving back to Manchester and signing for City, and if that’s the case The Blues need to look elsewhere. The Mirror believe that the dethroned champions have put Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender on the list of back-ups, in case the reports are true and Pogba wants to seek a move to Catalonia instead of to the north of England.
With the 26-year-old German only expected to cost around £25 million – compared to £70 million for Pogba – he could be seen as a much more economical option for City. He’s been targeted by top clubs in England over the past few years but has remained with Leverkusen since 2009.
However, the Germany international is yet to win a trophy with Bayer Leverkusen, and City would be able to offer him the chance to change that, as fairly as a fairly sizable weekly wage in order to facilitate the move. We might not see anything come of this speculation, but it’s difficult to rule a move out.
