Pep Guardiola has broken his silence following City’s guilty verdict, declaring that he remains firmly behind his former club.
The former Man City manager issued his first public response on Wednesday, a day after the Premier League published the findings of the independent commission.
Guardiola left City in the summer after 10 years in charge but has now made his position clear following the most significant development yet in the long-running financial case.
Pep Guardiola backs Manchester City after verdict
Posting on Instagram, Guardiola said: “I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever.”
He went on to say he remained behind “my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran”, as well as the players, staff, Enzo Maresca and City’s supporters.
“Let me be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all,” Guardiola concluded.
The statement follows the independent commission’s finding that City committed serious breaches of Premier League financial rules across nine seasons between 2009/10 and 2017/18.
The commission found City guilty of all charges relating to the serious financial breaches and three of four charges concerning their failure to co-operate with the Premier League’s investigation.
City reject the findings and maintain their innocence. The club has confirmed it will pursue an appeal, arguing that the decision contains material errors “of law, principle and fact” and is unsafe.
Guardiola repeatedly backed City’s hierarchy when questioned about the case during his time as manager. His first response since the verdict leaves no doubt that his support remains.
No sanction has yet been imposed. That will be dealt with separately by the independent commission, while City have until Friday, October 2 to exercise their right of appeal.
