Ayyoub Bouaddi played the full 90 minutes as Morocco opened their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Gabon on Friday night.
The Man City midfielder started in Rabat and remained on the pitch throughout as Morocco secured three points and a clean sheet in their opening Group A fixture.
It was another full senior international appearance for the 18-year-old, who joined City from Lille during the summer after featuring prominently for Morocco at the World Cup.
Bouaddi gets 90 minutes in Morocco win
Morocco controlled much of the first half and went close when Azzedine Ounahi struck the crossbar before the breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute.
Noussair Mazraoui scored to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, which they carried into half-time. Bouaddi was booked in the 64th minute but stayed on as Morocco looked for the second goal that would put the game beyond Gabon.
The visitors did threaten after the break, with Yassine Bounou required to make two saves from Denis Bouanga as Morocco protected their advantage.
Soufiane Rahimi finally made the points safe in the 84th minute. The substitute, who had been introduced midway through the second half, scored Morocco’s second to complete a 2-0 win.
Bouaddi’s 90 minutes continued his involvement at senior international level after an impressive World Cup with Morocco during the summer. He started five of their six matches as the Atlas Lions reached the quarter-finals before losing to France.
The City midfielder could be involved again on Monday when Morocco face Lesotho in their second AFCON qualifier of the international break.
