Bayern Munich have reportedly identified Erling Haaland as their preferred long-term replacement for Harry Kane, although City supporters shouldn’t expect an approach any time soon.
TEAMtalk report that the German champions want to put themselves in a position for a future move for Haaland once Kane’s time in Munich comes to an end.
There is no suggestion of an imminent bid or talks between the clubs. Any attempt to sign the Norwegian is expected to be several years away and would depend on him becoming available.
Bayern have Haaland in mind for life after Kane
Kane remains a major part of Bayern’s plans and the club are keen to extend his stay beyond his current contract, which runs until 2027.
Bayern are nevertheless looking further ahead and, according to TEAMtalk, Haaland is the player they would ideally like to replace the England captain when the time comes.
Getting him out of City would be another matter.
Haaland signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract in January 2025, tying him to the Etihad until the summer of 2034. The agreement replaced his previous deal and removed the release clauses it contained.
The 26-year-old also knows Bayern particularly well from his time in Germany. He scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before moving to City in 2022 and found the net eight times in seven meetings with Bayern.
Those numbers help explain why Bayern might have Haaland in mind, but there is a considerable distance between identifying a future target and being in a position to sign him.
For now, Kane remains at Bayern and Haaland has almost eight years left on his City contract.
The interest may be genuine, but this is one for the long-term file.
