Haaland named Premier League’s best player as Man City dominate top 50

Erling Haaland has been ranked as the best player in the Premier League by The Athletic, with Man City placing 10 players in its latest top 50.

Haaland keeps top spot in the September rankings after City’s perfect start to the Premier League season under Enzo Maresca.

Three Man City players make Premier League top 10

The Norwegian isn’t City’s only player near the top. Summer signing Elliot Anderson has climbed six places to fourth, while Rayan Cherki is also up six to 10th. Enzo Fernandez is 13th, giving City four players among the first 13.

Haaland remains above the lot. The Athletic says there’s little point analysing the striker any further because he simply continues doing what he does week after week. They reckon City can go far in any competition with Haaland “on the rampage”.

Anderson’s position is particularly eye-catching after only a handful of league games for City. Only Haaland and Arsenal pair Gabriel and Declan Rice are above the £116m summer signing, who The Athletic says already looks “indispensable” in Maresca’s midfield.

There are City players scattered throughout the rest of the list too. Jeremy Doku is 20th, Gianluigi Donnarumma 21st, Antoine Semenyo 25th, Ruben Dias 27th, Marc Guehi 33rd and Phil Foden 35th.

Ten City players in a top 50 isn’t bad going.
