Enzo Fernandez made two written transfer requests before £125m Man City move

Enzo Fernandez reportedly submitted two written transfer requests to Chelsea as he pushed to complete his £125m move to City.

The Argentina midfielder eventually got his move on Deadline Day, signing a five-year contract after City equalled the British transfer record to take him from Stamford Bridge.

But new details from The Telegraph have revealed what was going on behind the scenes during an increasingly messy final few days. Matt Law reports that Fernández submitted two written transfer requests, while Chelsea were also told that the midfielder’s relationship with all of his teammates had broken down.

There was perhaps another sign of how things had ended when the transfer was completed. The report notes that none of the Chelsea players who have remained at Stamford Bridge this season publicly wished their former vice-captain good luck following his move to City.

Fernandez’s desire to make the switch was no secret by Deadline Day. Sky Sports reported at the time that the 25-year-old wanted to join City, although Chelsea maintained throughout negotiations that they would not sell him cheaply.

City eventually paid £125m for the World Cup winner, with Fernandez signing until 2031. He said after completing the move that he “could not be happier” and described City as a club “built for success”.
