City opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Porto on Tuesday night, with Erling Haaland scoring both goals at the Estádio do Dragão.
It took City a while to get going, but there were some impressive individual displays on a night when Enzo Maresca made it four wins from four.
City player ratings
Gianluigi Donnarumma – 6.5
Porto caused problems at times but didn’t make him work particularly hard. Another clean sheet.
Matheus Nunes – 6.5
A solid enough night at right-back. Offered less going forward than City might normally expect from that position but rarely looked troubled.
Rúben Dias – 7
City were caught on the counter a few times, particularly early on, but Dias was generally where he needed to be.
Marc Guéhi – 7.5
Strong defensively and composed in possession. Didn’t take a backward step when things became a little heated either.
Josko Gvardiol – 6.5
Had one or two uncomfortable moments but settled as the game went on.
Ayyoub Bouaddi – 7.5
A very good first City start. Calm on the ball, disciplined alongside Fernández and didn’t look fazed by the occasion.
Enzo Fernández – 8
Excellent after a relatively quiet start. Became increasingly influential and supplied the cross for Haaland’s opener.
Phil Foden – 7
Started slowly but became much more involved as the first half developed. His movement caused Porto problems and he helped City finally find some tempo.
Rayan Cherki – 7
Not everything came off, but he was involved in the breakthrough, carrying the ball into the area before finding Fernández.
Antoine Semenyo – 6
Probably the quietest of City’s attacking players. Worked hard but struggled to have much influence before being replaced.
Erling Haaland – 9
The difference. Diogo Costa denied him before half-time, but Haaland headed City ahead shortly after the restart and then scored again in stoppage time. Two more Champions League goals for the Norwegian.
Substitutes
Elliot Anderson – 6.5
Introduced just after the hour as Maresca looked for a little more control.
Iliman Ndiaye – 7
Bright cameo. Went at Porto immediately and forced Costa into a save.
Mateo Kovačić – 6.5
Helped City negotiate the final stages after replacing Bouaddi.
Rayan Aït-Nouri – 7
Made his limited time count, providing the ball for Haaland’s second.
