It has been a busy old summer at the Etihad Stadium for loyal Manchester City fans, as well as juggling all of the nonsense caused by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico triple hosted World Cup, we were also dealing with the departure of serially winning Spaniard Pep Guardiola.
With the first team squad rebuild having been started by Pep this time last summer, with numerous high profile changes being made to his starting and substitute options, completing the task now fell to Enzo Maresca who finally took his position in the dug out after we sorted his gardening leave out with Chelsea.
The summer transfer window has again seen plenty of changes and Netherlands betting sites would have been all over the odds on that happening, with both arrivals and departures, and with further moves expected over the weekend before we hit the all important deadline day as we tick into September, it again looks likely that one time £100 million Jack Grealish will be moving on out in a loan spell.
The 30 year old former Aston Villa and England man’s time at City has long been over – although since returning for 2026/27, he has featured as a substitute in our opening two games of the campaign for Maresca. He did look likely to have a good spell out on loan last season with Everton, until injury got in the way, and if the speculation rumour mill is to be believed, Sunderland have now contacted the deal makers at City’s campus over getting a new deal done.
Many in the wider world of football expected David Moyes to come back in for him giving how the Everton spell started, but with that not happening the north east club have now come in to propose giving him an exit. It is believed that they have said that they will cover a proportion of his wages – with City covering the remainder – but that the possibility of a permanent deal will be on the table and that may well be more tempting to the player himself, as opposed to staying put or agreeing another loan, when he knows he will continue to be a free agent next summer and starting fresh in the hunt for a new club and contract.
For City, a permanent deal in the offing means we do not have to keep him on the books and pay him for a period of the summer as per the player contract expiry rules.
We will simply have to see what happens with this one.
