Simon Jordan questions Maresca after Community Shield mauling

TalkSPORT’s controversial ‘expert’ Simon Jordan has questioned whether Enzo Maresca is the right man to lead City, following their 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and the confirmed departure of Rodri to Barcelona.

After just ONE game.

“I’m not sure how good a manager he is,” Jordan said on talkSPORT. “They didn’t look like a football team yesterday.”

City were well beaten by Arsenal at Wembley, a result that came the same weekend Barcelona agreed a deal worth £65.4million for Rodri, ending the midfielder’s seven-year spell at the Etihad. Maresca, taking charge for his first season after replacing Pep Guardiola, said afterwards he wasn’t surprised by the interest in his departing captain.

Jordan’s comments add to the scrutiny already surrounding Maresca’s start, with the Italian having previously acknowledged that succeeding Guardiola is close to an “impossible job,” even if he called it a privilege too. Losing Rodri, one of City’s most important players over the past four seasons, only adds to the rebuilding job in front of him before a ball has been kicked in the league.

City are now expected to move for midfield reinforcements, with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez among the names previously mentioned as a possible target.
