Real Madrid’s enthusiasm for Rodri has cooled in the boardroom, even as speculation over his City future rumbles on.
As ReadManCity reported earlier this week, Rodri has continued to knock back City’s renewal offers. Reports in Spain suggest he’d prefer a return home. Madrid’s own position has been harder to pin down.
Fabrizio Romano says Florentino Pérez, freshly re-elected as club president, remains unconvinced. Cadena Ser have gone further, reporting there is no realistic chance of a move under the current circumstances.
That marks a shift from earlier in the summer. Matteo Moretto reported that Rodri had given the move his approval after Spain’s World Cup win — he took the Golden Ball at the tournament — but said a deal remained in doubt because of the club’s hierarchy.
City’s stance hasn’t changed. They’ve tabled renewal terms more than once, and Romano says talks are “on stand-by” rather than broken off. With Pep Guardiola gone and both John Stones and Bernardo Silva expected to leave, keeping hold of their midfield anchor matters more than ever.
Rodri has a year left on his deal. Madrid’s hesitancy buys City time. It doesn’t yet buy them certainty.
